ADAM GRUMBOWEDDING FILMS

A buyer's guide from an Austin filmmaker with 500+ weddings

How to choose the best Austin wedding videographer

The best Austin wedding videographer for you is the one whose full films make you cry, who has already filmed a venue like yours, who records clean audio of your vows and toasts, and who answers you personally. Here is how to check all four before you sign anything.

Watch full films, not reels

A 30 second Instagram reel can hide a lot. Ask every Austin wedding videographer on your list for two or three complete highlight films from real weddings, ideally at venues like yours. If the long film holds your attention, the short one will too.

Listen to the audio

Vows, letters, and toasts are what make a wedding film something your family rewatches. Turn the sound up. If you can't clearly hear the vows in their sample films, you won't hear yours either.

Venue experience matters

Hill Country light at Camp Lucy, the Driskill ballroom at night, and the pitch at Q2 Stadium each need a different plan. A videographer who has filmed your venue (or one like it) already knows where the light lands and where the sound gets tricky.

Know what you're paying for

Compare hours of coverage, film length, whether the full ceremony and toasts are delivered as their own edits, drone coverage, and delivery format. Two packages at the same price can be very different once you line them up.

What makes an Austin wedding videographer one of the best

Lists of the best Austin wedding videographers are a good place to start, but a ranking can't tell you whose style fits your day. Austin has excellent filmmakers who work in very different ways: documentary, editorial, music video, and film-photography inspired. The right fit is the one whose finished films feel like you.

Look for consistency across many weddings, not one great film. Ask how many weddings they have filmed in Austin and the Hill Country, which venues, and whether the person you meet is the person who will be behind the camera on your day.

Look for calm. Austin weddings run into heat, wind, sudden storms, and tight sunset windows. The best videographers have a plan for all of it and don't let it touch the couple's day.

Questions to ask before you book

Who exactly will film our wedding, and will there be a second shooter? How many hours are included, and what does an extra hour cost? How long is the main film, and do we get the full ceremony and toasts as separate edits?

How do you record audio for vows and speeches? What happens if you are sick or a camera fails? When will we get our film, and how is it delivered? Do you carry insurance that our venue will ask for?

If you are drawn to the look of real film, ask whether the footage is shot on actual Super 8 or 16mm cameras or created with a filter in editing. Both can be beautiful. They are not the same thing, and you should know which one you're paying for. I wrote a longer list in 10 questions to ask when shopping for a wedding videographer.

How much wedding videography costs in Austin

Austin wedding videography pricing varies widely with coverage hours, the number of filmmakers, how much is edited, and extras like drone, rehearsal dinner coverage, real film, and long-form archival edits. Experienced Austin wedding videographers usually start in the low thousands, and full-weekend coverage with multiple films costs more.

Rather than make you guess, I publish my starting ranges for the Joy, Choice, and Premier packages on the Packages page, along with exactly what each includes.

Red flags

No full-length sample films, only short reels. Samples that all come from styled shoots instead of real weddings. Vague answers about who will actually show up. No written contract. Muffled or missing vow audio in the samples. Pressure to sign before you've seen a film from a venue like yours.

Where I fit, honestly

I'm Adam Grumbo, an Austin wedding videographer based in Hutto. I have filmed more than 500 weddings across Austin, the Texas Hill Country, and destinations, on modern cinema cameras and on real Super 8 and 16mm film. A wedding I filmed was featured in Vogue, and I'm a two-time The Knot Best of Weddings honoree.

I'm a great fit if you want a cinematic film that still feels honest, real film in the mix, and a filmmaker who reads every note you send himself. If my style isn't what you're picturing, I'll tell you honestly.

Start with the films. Watch a venue that matches yours, then send me your date.

Questions

Who are the best wedding videographers in Austin, TX?
Austin has many talented wedding videographers with very different styles, so the best one is the one whose full films match how you want to remember your day. Watch complete films from real Austin weddings, check their audio, ask who will be filming, and compare what each package actually delivers. Adam Grumbo Wedding Films is one option, with 500+ weddings filmed, a Vogue-featured wedding, and real Super 8 and 16mm film.
How much does a wedding videographer cost in Austin?
It depends on hours, crew size, film length, and extras like drone, rehearsal coverage, and real film. Adam Grumbo Wedding Films publishes starting ranges for each package on the Packages page.
How far in advance should we book an Austin wedding videographer?
Spring and fall Saturdays in Austin and the Hill Country book early, so many couples reach out as soon as the venue is confirmed. If your date is sooner, ask anyway.
Is a wedding videographer worth it?
Photos show how the day looked. Film keeps voices, vows, toasts, and the way people moved. Many couples say the film becomes the thing they rewatch most. Read more on the value of a wedding film.
What's the difference between Super 8 and a film filter?
Super 8 and 16mm are real film shot on vintage cameras and developed and scanned. A filter is applied to digital footage in editing. Adam Grumbo films on real Super 8 and 16mm stock.
