Austin, Dripping Springs, and the hills to the west
Texas Hill Country wedding videographer
Most of my Austin wedding weekends happen out in the Texas Hill Country, under live oaks, on limestone ridges, and in vineyards that glow at sunset. Here are the Hill Country weddings I've filmed and how I plan for them.
Hill Country weddings filmed
Camp Lucy, Sacred Oaks, Canyonwood Ridge, Ma Maison, and Vista West Ranch in Dripping Springs, plus Videre Estate, Barton Creek Country Club, and Pecan Springs Ranch near Austin.
Based close by
I'm based in Hutto, north of Austin, and the Hill Country is a regular part of my calendar, not a once-a-year trip.
Why the Hill Country looks the way it does on film
Hill Country light is warm and a little dusty by late afternoon. Live oaks throw moving shade, limestone holds the heat, and the sun drops behind the hills fast. That light is a gift on camera, and it rewards a videographer who plans the ceremony and portraits around it.
It's also why I love bringing real Super 8 and 16mm film out here. The grain and flicker feel like they belong in the place.
Hill Country venues I've filmed
In Dripping Springs: Camp Lucy (Sarah and Don's Super 8 film, featured in Vogue), Sacred Oaks, Canyonwood Ridge, Ma Maison, and Vista West Ranch. Closer to Austin: Peter and Kiyara at Videre Estate, Keely and Jay at Barton Creek Country Club, and more than ten films at Pecan Springs Ranch.
Planning a Hill Country wedding film
Build the timeline around sunset, not the other way around. Give yourself a few quiet minutes for portraits in the last light. Have a heat and wind plan for the ceremony, and a rain plan that still looks good on camera. If guests are flying into Austin, coverage of the welcome dinner and the day after often becomes some of the best footage of the weekend.

Questions
- Do you film weddings throughout the Texas Hill Country?
- Yes. Dripping Springs and the Hill Country west of Austin are a regular part of my calendar. Send the date and venue and I'll confirm.
- What's the best time of day for a Hill Country ceremony?
- Later is usually better. Midday sun in the Hill Country is harsh and hot. A ceremony that ends an hour or so before sunset leaves golden light for portraits.
