Marci and Kurtis's Wedding at Mahekal Beach Resort in Playa del Carmen

Everything that had to go right, and everything that had to go wrong, led them here. Marci and Kurtis married at Mahekal Beach Resort in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, in a courtyard of coral stone, pink petals, and royal blue suits. Family and friends flew in. A father in military medals walked her. Violins played against the wall. The vows talked about time as a gift that is both unknown and final. The film runs 4:49.

Adam Grumbo Wedding Films is an Austin studio. Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio stay on the calendar. Mexico is a destination brief: palapa shade, a Caribbean street, and a courtyard that can hold a whole family.

The film does not start on an altar. It starts on a street.

A bright orange cargo trike on a sandy road, palapa on the left, mottled sun, parked cars. Playa del Carmen is a resort town that still has a street. We keep the street.

White busts, turquoise stone, leather cords, a vendor in a white tank. Destination guests shop. Destination films that skip the market are skipping the week.

Back at the resort the hardware of the week is hanging in the air.

Star shaped metal lanterns hang on wires in the Mahekal courtyard.

Dark metal stars on wires, a pale wall, tropical leaves. Mahekal is a courtyard as much as it is a beach.

Empty ceremony courtyard with a pink-draped arch and petal aisle.

Before anyone sits: white Chiavari chairs, a thick carpet of pale pink and white petals, small bouquets on the aisle seats, a wooden arch in blush fabric and roses, a dark doorway in honeycomb stone, tropical canopy and a flare of sun. If you are considering Mahekal, this is the honest establishing image of the ceremony garden.

From the back of the house, guests go soft, the aisle stays sharp. Kurtis in royal blue. The officiant in sequined rose gold at a microphone. A groomsman in tan. Stone and jungle behind the arch. This is the heart of the film: two people standing still long enough for the words to land.

Someone quotes Mark Twain on marriage making two fractional lives a whole. Kurtis tells Marci that falling in love with her is the easiest thing he has ever done. A parent sees the little boy in him again. Then: husband and wife.

Bow tie, pale pink rose and succulent boutonniere, white pocket square, a small card, a bamboo screen. Getting ready is not filler. It is the minute the day becomes real in the hands.

Palm fronds silhouetted on a warm orange Playa sky.

Tight on black palms against apricot light. Mahekal sits on the beach. The film is allowed to remember that even when the ceremony is in a courtyard.

Groomsmen in royal blue at the blush arch, petal aisle in the foreground.

Three groomsmen in matching blue and pink bow ties, a tan officiant, crates of hydrangea and dusty miller on the chairs, the stone wall, the trees. The party is in place. The bride is about to change the frame.

Blonde hair, lace bodice, tulle, white and pink roses. Her father in black tie with a row of medals. Two violinists in white shirts, one in aviators, a red stand, the stone wall. Everything that had to go right is in this walk.

Marci and Kurtis laugh with the wedding party in gold, pink, and royal blue.

After the aisle, the party is a pile of people. Gold sequins, pale pink, royal blue, dusty miller. They are not posing. They are already married in the face.

The vows are not only a wide shot. Tight, they are two faces at a microphone.

Hold the faces. Then hold her alone.
